My work is heavily influenced by my interest in all aspects of the natural world. I am passionate in my beliefs and concerns about the environmental emergency and am very active in that field. We as human beings are part of the natural world, not separate from it and my practice is immersed in that belief.
I like to reuse flotsam and jetsam and experiment with different media and techniques to create images often based on childhood memories or moments in time. Toys also play a major role in my practice, in particular a Squeaky Rubber Doll dating back to the 1940’s . I worked in childcare as a Nursery Practitioner for twenty years so understand the need for children to use toys to help them better understand their world, as a mature woman in my role as an artist I still find them a very useful tool. There is an autobiographical element to my work and I draw on my life experience.
My piece “The Missing” was chosen for The Awakenings exhibition in Canterbury in 2017. Another piece - “Ring A Roses” was given a second judging at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and “Abandoned” was chosen for the South East Summer Exhibition in Folkestone. Most recently I curated my own solo exhibition in Whitstable. I hope you like my website and work and am happy to answer any queries or comments .
Hello Gary .
Thank you very much , it’s kind of you to send a message as my work is unusual I assume it is generally passed by , quite often looked at , but very rarely commented on .It is very personal , but I hope ,as you have confirmed, thought provoking to the viewer . I have finished a new piece which I shall add to my website , it is based on another nursery rhyme ‘Round and round the garden ’ and will be included in an Exhibition in May entitled ‘Comfort and Challenge ’ at Below 65 High st Maidstone . ( see MVAN info link)
